Leeds students to show off the city in new photography competition
- £1,500 worth of prizes up for grabs as UNITE and The Faversham join forces to launch Best Shot -
Students in Leeds should get snapping as UNITE, the leading provider of student accommodation in the city, has launched a new photography competition to capture Leeds on camera.
UNITE is behind some of the most popular student accommodation buildings in Leeds, including The Plaza and the iconic Sky Plaza development both on Claypit Lane as well as Concept Place on Park Lane. The competition invites students to take photographs of their favourite Leeds landmarks – whatever they might be.
Best Shot is a collaboration between UNITE and The Faversham, where the finalists’ work will be exhibited. The public will get to decide the winner, who will be rewarded with a £500 prize. Four runners up will each receive £250.
To enter, students simply need to upload their photographs to the Best Shot ‘group’ page on Flickr – www.flickr.com/groups/leedsbestshot - by the closing date of 19 February 2010. Terms and conditions apply and can be found at www.unite-students.com/bestshot.
Simon Jones, UNITE’s Operations Director for the North East said the brief was open to interpretation:
“We’re looking for creative, thought-provoking entries that show Leeds in a different light. A landmark doesn’t necessarily have to be a building; it could be a person, a place or a thing that represents a milestone in the history of the city or something new and exciting that deserves attention.”
UNITE offers a choice of four properties in Leeds, all within easy walking distance of the universities and the city centre’s shops and nightlife, meaning everything you need is on your doorstep. This includes its newest development, Sky Plaza, which opened in September 2009 and offers 34 storeys of contemporary student living. This stylish property includes a range of premium rooms from the 19th floor upwards offering luxury accommodation and fantastic views of the city.”
There are a range of room types on offer across all four properties in shared flats for two to six people as well as studios and one bed flats designed for either couples or individuals. There are no hidden costs as utility bills, contents insurance and in-room internet access are included in the rent price.
Rooms are available to book now for the 10/11 academic year and there is also a range of short term lets on offer. To find out more, arrange a viewing or to book a room, visit www.unite-students.com or call 0800 783 4213.
