Some 40,000 students across the UK call UNITE Group home. When people think of student accommodation, the image of the sort of digs that the cast of the BBC TV programme The Young One’s lived in often springs to mind. But at UNITE Group our accommodation has moved on – dramatically. Five years ago, en-suite bathrooms were a luxury, now they are the norm. So we focus on finding brownfield sites that fit the bill. We’ve been credited for bringing new young life back into some areas of city centres where little investment had been made. Most of our customers book with us directly, but we also build relationships with universities and colleges to deliver accommodation – providing extra capacity when campus accommodation is full, for example. In 2007 we launched our fully interactive online booking service.
