Everyone in our business works together to create an environment in which individuals, teams and the company as a whole can achieve success. We passionately believe in the value of quality training and development, designed to meet the needs of our fast-growing business.
We also believe that learning is not reserved solely for the training room, but that opportunities exist everywhere in our daily working lives.
We’re committed to learning from our experiences and interactions with our customers and colleagues. In fact, we consider it our responsibility to learn and share our learning with each other.

To give you a flavour of what it’s like to work at the UNITE Group – and what we really look for in our people – here are some comments from our current team members: Emily Watts, Project Manager, Post Completion, South “I worked for UNITE for six years as a Hospitality Manager and developed an interest in the construction side of the business whilst working alongside Trevor Newman, Regional Project Director, during the construction phase of the Heights in Birmingham. I moved into my current role in October, which is also when I started my Masters. I have just completed my first year of a two-year masters in construction project management at Wolverhampton University. Both my job and my studies are hugely enjoyable and it is proof that no matter how radical a change, with the right support anything is possible.”
Louise Jamieson, Hospitality Manager, Sheffield “I started my UNITE journey in 2003 as a customer and resident coordinator in Sheffield. Since then I have developed through many roles, including Hospitality Assistant, Graduate Hospitality Manager to then becoming a Hospitality Manager in 2007. During my time with UNITE I have been given many opportunities to enhance my roles by becoming a champion for U-Want Internet, Reputation and the UNITE Booking System. As well as supporting Sheffield with any queries, sometimes I co-facilitate a two-day training course, which helps me keep up to date. I also use the champion role to help share best practice and tips with fellow colleagues. I love being a champion, as not only do I get to meet new people, I help people gain new understanding and grow in confidence. My advice to anyone who is given an opportunity like this is, to seize it and make it your own!”
James Childs, Regional Project Manager, South “My learning and development was kick-started at UNITE by attending the First Level Leadership programme. This enhanced my self-awareness and the impact I have on others, inspiring me to develop my management learning and to never underestimate what can be achieved through teamwork. The Career Development Process gave me a platform to express my ambition to join the Project Management function. This led to UNITE sponsoring me through an external distance learning degree with Reading University and offering me a position within the project management team. Attending the Leadership and Learning programme gave me space to really clarify what I wanted to achieve at UNITE and the importance of continuing to explore learning opportunities.”
