Saw Mill in Huddersfield opens with a party – 10 November 2014

11 November 2016

Unite students the UK’s leading developer and manager of student accommodation, announces the opening of its latest property – ‘Saw Mill’ in Huddersfield.

The opening was celebrated on Wednesday, 5 November with a hog roast, DJ and entertainers in an event open to all 1,005 students housed across Unite’s three properties in Huddersfield.

Saw Mill is home for 378 students, and is fully let for the 2014/15 academic year. It is Unite’s third property in Huddersfield, sitting near to the West Yorkshire town’s centre. It is a stone’s throw from the University of Huddersfield – the 2013 Times Higher Education ‘University of the Year’.

Huddersfield city manager Fritha Jaine was at Wednesday’s hog roast. She said:

“It’s so important to thank our students and welcome them to their new home.

“We are a home to so many students, and part of any ‘home’ experience is the occasional celebration.

“Students love a free meal too – so the hog roast and veggie burgers went down especially well!”

Unite has 17 student accommodations in Yorkshire – three in Huddersfield, six in Leeds and eight in Sheffield – providing a home for 7,492 students. The company employs 108 staff in the county.

Saw Mill, on King’s Mill Lane, represents the first opening in Unite’s £300m regional investment programme which reaches outside of London to develop student accommodation across the UK.

All Saw Mill students receive free high speed 20Mb Wi-Fi, a free fortnightly cleaning service and LED lighting throughout.

Unite Students chief executive Mark Allan said:

“The University of Huddersfield is rightly recognised as a leader in education, boasting an array of recent awards and accolades.

“The new Saw Mill property will add to that by providing a home for success for Huddersfield’s students – be that academic achievement, personal growth or preparation for the world of work.

“I’m delighted our students had such fun at the opening event. I hope they continue to enjoy their time in Huddersfield.”
