Season 2 Episode 3 – Race and inclusion in higher education

In this month’s episode of our Accommodation Matters podcast, we explore how the events of the past year have brought in focus questions around race, inclusion and equality.

Our guests – who have all played a part in moving forward their organisation’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion – discuss how the higher education sector has responded following the murder of George Floyd and last year’s Black Lives Matter protests.

They delve into topics including what work had already been done in the sector prior to 2020 and how much last year’s events accelerated an existing appetite for change within the sector.

Our host Darren Ellis, Higher Education Engagement Director at Unite Students, is joined by:

  • Shakira Martin, head of student experience at Rose Bruford College
  • Alex Mormoris, inclusion manager at London Metropolitan University
  • Mhairi Taylor, head of equality, diversity and inclusion at University of Glasgow
  • Sam Kingsley, equality, diversity and inclusion manager at Unite Students
