Unite and Balfour Beatty celebrate topping out at new Camden property

16 January 2014

UNITE, the UK’s leading operator of purpose built student accommodation, today celebrated the topping out of their new central London property, ‘St Pancras Way’, in a joint celebration with construction partner Balfour Beatty.

Camden Town is a popular location for students and the 571 bed property will provide a home right at the heart of a culturally rich and diverse area of London. Just 5 minutes’ walk from Kings Cross & St Pancras International, students will have easy access to excellent transport links around London and its many university campuses. The Zone 1 property, which is due for completion for the 2014/15 academic year, will also provide Travis Perkins with a new trading facility on the ground floor.

The topping out celebrates the completion of the structural construction phase of the development, which will offer a mix of shared flats and studio accommodation, over ten floors.

Today’s topping out ceremony was performed by Councillor Robinson, Councillor St Pancras and Somers Town. He said:

“The development of well-managed, purpose built student accommodation is really important in areas which are home to large student populations in order to ease the pressure on the private rented market. Students are often a catalyst for regeneration, bringing a positive impact to local communities through their spending power and the work they do in the community and I am looking forward to see the regeneration of the area continue.”

Richard Simpson, Managing Director of Property for UNITE, said:

“The completion of St Pancras Way will represent a significant addition to UNITE’s London portfolio. The completion supports our ambition to grow our market share of competitively priced student accommodation in London where demand for student accommodation exceeds supply.

“With 23 years’ experience of providing student accommodation we pride ourselves on securing the best locations for our students. This development, with its innovative use of space, working closely with our partners and land owners Travis Perkins, will ensure we provide a home for students with the right living and studying conditions to support their success.”

UNITE’s new, wholly owned Camden property is made up of 40 studios and 78 shared flats, all with en-suite bathrooms. The property is being built entirely to UNITE’s new specification room design which provides a modern, high quality look and feel, in a desirable location, at a very competitive price point for London students.
