Unite Students celebrates topping out at Olympic Way, Wembley – 22 January 2016

10 November 2016

Unite Students, the UK’s leading provider of student accommodation, today marked the topping out of Olympic Way in Wembley, London.

The ceremony celebrates the completion of the structural construction of Unite’s new £73mililion development in North West London. Situated in an area which has undergone significant regeneration, the property will  officially open its doors to 699 students from Middlesex University in September 2016 following a new partnership agreement between Unite Students and the University.

Today’s ceremony saw guests from Unite Students, Main Contractor RG Group and partners Middlesex University getting a sneak preview of the breath-taking city and Stadium views from the highest point of the building.

The property itself comprises an 18 storey linear student accommodation block with two projecting retail blocks, raised gardens and terraces at the lower levels with ground floor courtyards and public spaces.

Richard Simpson, Unite Students Managing Director – Property commented:

“Today marks an important milestone in our latest development project. It’s also an opportunity for us to thank all those involved who have worked on the construction of what will be a visually impressive landmark on the North West London skyline.

“The development, the 9th project we have worked on with RG Group, is the most ambitious yet. As with all our properties Olympic Way has convenient access to transport links, and is close to shops and amenities. The property will also include communal spaces designed to enhance students’ living and learning experience, en-suite shared flats, high speed Wi-Fi and LED lighting, throughout.

“The Middlesex University students who will call the place home from September will also have one of the best possible views of the iconic Wembley Stadium.”

Simon Felstead, RG Group Project Manager added:

“In January 2015, we began laying the foundations for this prestigious 18 storey student accommodation block in the shadow of the famous Wembley Stadium.

“As we now celebrate the topping out ceremony, we can reflect on the achievements of the past year and the great effort afforded by the whole project team. Like all projects it has thrown up many challenges all of which have been met head on by everyone involved.

“RG would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute and thank the whole RG Group project team, the consultant team and the supply chain along with all those who have contributed to reaching this key milestone today.

“We remain excited and privileged to be working on this high profile scheme for Unite Students, maintaining our reputation of successfully delivering on value, quality and providing innovative solutions in our approach.”

Andrew Dickie, Middlesex University Director of Estates and Facilities Management Service concluded:

“At Middlesex University we put students at the centre of everything that we do.

“Students often speak to us about accommodation so we are investing in this area as we strive to enhance the student experience in this iconic city.

“We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Unite Students to provide more accommodation for students as well as employment opportunities for Middlesex students in the Wembley area.

“Waking up to spectacular views over Wembley Stadium is yet another compelling reason for students to come and study here at Middlesex University.”
