Unite Students is part of ‘Go Green Week’ – 08 February 2016

Unite Students, the UK’s leading developer and operator of purpose-built student accommodation, is participating in and promoting activities surrounding this week’s ‘Go Green Week’. It’s the People & Planet’s annual national week of action on climate change in schools, colleges and universities and is taking place from 8 February until 12 February 2016.

Many of Unite’s university partners are promoting the week across their campuses – and Unite is supporting them by running local events in their 138 properties across the UK. These events will highlight individual actions which everyone can adopt to help combat climate change.

Unite has a network of Sustainability Champions who work with students, employees and higher education partners on implementing a range of actions in their properties which positively impact the environment. Together with their student volunteer Green Impact Consultants, Unite’s Sustainability Champions will be planning and implementing their ‘Go Green Week’ activities.

To ensure maximum impact, every day of ‘Go Green Week’ will be themed, and there are a number of event options to choose from for each day. This will allow Unite’s teams in the individual properties to run events that they are particularly passionate about or support local universities’ activities.

The themes this year are as follows:

• Day One – Switch off Monday
  It’s time to unplug and switch off. A series of activities will be taking place in the common rooms to promote energy saving.
• Day Two – Take back Tuesday
  Sort through any clutter in your room and take anything you don’t need to your local Cancer Research shop or charity bin.
• Day Three – Waste not Wednesday
  ‘Love your leftovers’ by discovering a new recipe to use up the contents of your fridge.
• Day Four – Travel light Thursday
  Get out and about on your bike or take a local walk.
• Day Five – Take action Friday
  Pledges for ‘the one thing you would do differently to save Co2’.
