8 November 2016

Unite Students, the UK’s leading developer and manager of student accommodation, has improved its CDP score by 53 per cent in one year.

CDP – formerly ‘Carbon Disclosure Project’ – ratings are an internationally recognised gauge of positive environmental policy and activity in business.

Unite Students CDP ‘disclosure score’ for 2014 is 86, with a ‘performance score’ of B. In contrast, Unite’s 2013 scores were 56 and E.

The numerical score is out of 100, and relates to having a clear consideration of business-specific risks and opportunities relating to climate change.

The lettered performance score runs from E to A and recognises actions taken to support sustainability.

Unite Students managing director Richard Smith said: “The leap in our score reflects clear improvements in our environmental activity and reporting.

“The £21million LED lighting rollout across our properties is a commitment which will reduce our carbon footprint by the equivalent of 400 households.

“Unite Students has committed itself to responsible business practices and we will continue to strive to further reduce our emissions across the business.”
