Unite Students supports responsible Business Week 2016 – 19 April 2016

10 November 2016

Unite Students, the UK’s largest developer and provider of student accommodation, will this week be marking Business in the Community’s (BITC) annual ‘Responsible Business Week’. The week is an important awareness raising event that is dedicated to profiling the contribution of business to society.

Responsible Business Week 2016 takes place from 18 – 22 April and was devised to increase awareness of the powerful difference that business makes to the economic, social and environmental challenges we face as a nation.

Unite is one of hundreds of businesses across the UK taking part in the campaign which this year has the theme ‘ideas for good get better when shared’.

To mark Responsible Business Week, Unite will be profiling some of its corporate responsibility activities, including the commitment to staff volunteering, the various donations that are made to charities such as Cancer Research as well as designated local foodbanks, and the “Up to uS” engagement campaign.

Unite has a network of Sustainability Champions who work with students, employees and higher education partners on implementing a range of actions in its properties which positively impact the environment.

Richard Smith, Managing Director of Operations at Unite Students, commented:

“We are proud to again be supporting Responsible Business Week. As a business, we are continuously aiming to improve the social and environmental aspects of our operations, and Responsible Business Week provides an ideal platform to engage our customers, investors and employees.

“Promoting responsible behaviour among students and employees encourages everyone to get involved in sustainability and community initiatives throughout our 138 properties across the UK.”

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community, said:

“Responsible Business Week is an opportunity to raise the profile of business as a force for good and give some much needed visibility to the positive difference business is making to our communities, environment and economy. By creating this space to share ideas that are working, we’re able to challenge and inspire many more organisations of all sizes to be part of a movement transforming the way business is done. We all know trust in business is a challenge. Responsible Business Week is also an opportunity to help business build dialogue with the public by being more transparent about how it does business.”
