White Rose View, Leeds – Completed on schedule during Covid lockdown

2020 has been an exceptional year to date, with the Covid pandemic bringing about circumstances no one could ever have predicted.

This has had a knock-on effect on all sectors, including the construction industry. A number of projects in the sector have had to be put on hold or delayed.

This, however, has not been the case for, White Rose View, Unite Students’ new property in Leeds.

Completed on schedule, this 976-bed home for students was constructed as an ‘Ultra Scheme’ within the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) framework. The CCS code of conduct means development has to meet certain standards. The external appearance of the construction site and contractors has to enhance the image of the industry and workforce, give the utmost consideration to the impact on the surrounding community, protect the environment, secure everyone’s safety, and show value to the workforce. As an ‘Ultra Scheme’ project, the development had to represent the pinnacle of achievement, exceeding the Scheme’s Code of Consideration Practice, demonstrating and promoting the highest standards of the Scheme.

The common spaces at White Rose View have been designed with students as well as experts in interior design, to offer up-to-date and functional spaces that students actually want and can use effectively.

Due to the space incorporated into these designs, Covid-safe measures have easily been implemented to ensure the safety of our students and staff and allow for socially distanced use of the spaces. We have also been able to design in larger kitchen/living rooms in shared flats, many with great views across Leeds, further allowing students to socialise in a safe way, according to government guidelines. White Rose View strengthens Unite’s partnership with the University of Leeds, with a 30-year lease, and 57% of rooms under a nomination agreement with the university. This long-term commitment shows a deepening trust in our partnership at a difficult time where a lot of organisations are hesitant to make longer-term commitments.
