3 September 2020

Unite volunteers help refurbish specialist children’s nursery

A team of more than 40 volunteers spent a day refurbishing the Steps Centre charity, which provides education for children with motor disorders.

In 2019, Unite’s Loughborough estates team, comprising 40 volunteers, completed a DIY SOS-style makeover of the nursey. The Steps centre is a charity which provides education to help children with motor disorders live fuller and more active lives. It also supports their families.

The team of volunteers secured more than £50,000 worth of equipment and resources donated by business contractors and businesses to assist with the work. Film crews from the BBC and ITV attended the event to witness the makeover in action.

The results of the renovation have made a huge difference to local service users. Centre Manager Janet Russell said:

”We are delighted with what’s happened. It’s like a dream a come true”
